There was a time when you would probably have to queue to see your tour operator to book a vacation but the internet has seen the number of travel agents visited dwindle, as more booking takes place online. This gradual turn to travel websites has come about because more discounts can be found and you can book the vacation at any time of the day. I have used travel agents since my senior year trip and no matter how many websites offer unbeatable deals; I will remain loyal to them although have taken a liking to doing my own research.
The internet is ideal for this and it I amazing just how much you can learn from it; I am even able to know how much it will cost before I see my travel agent. Although most of their work is booking the vacations they can also be helpful with hints and tips you haven’t seen on the internet. For instance, when international travel is concerned, they should be able to help you with local laws to the country you are traveling too that could relate to your stay.
Some countries actually charge a fee to enter and also have restrictions about what you can take in and take out which aren’t usually publicized very well and easy to miss. These people are there to make your life easier and ensure that your vacation needs are completely taken care of, something the internet cannot do. Don’t get me wrong, the internet is great but it is not caring and it is always reassuring dealing with a real person. While it is easy and usually cheaper to do all you’re booking online, it is not so helpful when something goes wrong and you have to complain; something the travel agent is there for as well. When my husband and I decided to elope to exchange vows, we called up some travel agents and one in particular, seemed to be exactly what we were looking for.
What really made the difference was the way our representative approached the whole wedding arrangements; there was an enthusiasm to the work that was quite infectious, something that I shall never forget. Once we had sorted out the budget she was able to give us plenty of options and was incredibly helpful in locating companies that could provide special services. As she was so quick to get all this done we decided to book the wedding and honeymoon almost straight away. I’m also a fan of travel agents over using the internet because if you end up booking the vacation from hell, you have no one to blame but yourself whereas if you used a travel agency, at least you’ll have someone to complain too.
