We have just had the following experience: Met 2 U.K. visitors in Cape Town and drove them back to P.E. via the Garden Route. Apart from a few wonderful days….. 1) Made a booking at the City Lodge, Cape Town Waterfront via Oceanair Travel- normal rack rate of R790 for a double room per night.Sent i copy of my travel card. Arrived at the hotel to find a very nice letter of welcome from the Manager waiting for us advising that they were able to reduce the price of our room to R350 per night for 2 ights and give us 2 complementary breakfasts value R95,000. Total saving R1 070,00. 2) Stayed 2 nights at the Queen’s Hotel in Oudtshoorn. Without prior warning presented our travel card on arriving and had our 2 nights accommodation reduced from R760 per night (double room) to R570,00 per night (total saving R380,00). Visited the Tsitsikamma National Park and presented our card at the gate. Normal charge R80,00, charged to us R0.00!!! One short trip to Cape Town and back- Total Saving R1530, which represented an overall discount of 23% on the accommodation costs, and we have recovered 60% of the initial cost of the card never mind the commissions earned from marketing the card. I have recently stayed at the Wyndham Hotel next to the Galleria in Dallas, Texas. This is the third time in 3 months that I have stayed in this hotel. The regular room rate is $187 and as a travel agent, I have received a rate of $69. Each time I have received a complementary upgrade to a two-room suite with the standard rate being $298, while still just paying $69. The treatment received by being a travel agent is amazing! When I arrived in my room on the most recent stay, there was a complementary bottle of wine, cheese, crackers and bottled water in my room along with a very nice note from the hotel. WOW!

I even got upgraded to a penthouse suite after arriving in San Francisco for an 8 hour layover and meetings with a few clients of mine. My rental car quote was 45.00 for a mid-size car. When I asked for the agent rate, I drove away in a brand spanking new Ford Mustang convertible with only 4 miles on it for 30.00 (usually 70.00).
